Yee Peng Thai Lanterns Set off
Asia is constantly stuffed with jubilations, some of the most spectacular of which materialize in the South East. As the name advises Thai Lanterns are from Thailand and are nowadays contacting a far bigger audience as they increase popularity at UK events. One Such Festival by the name of Yee Peng follows the Buddhist Calendar and translates to the twelfth lunar month. November is when this occurs if your waiting on a Western calendar. Loy Krathong is what you will pick up it referred to if you hap to be in other part of Thailand. The Thai people follow this religious festival and the customs it implies. My favourite action is the releasing of ‘Thai Lanterns’ or ‘Khom Loy’. Following the Lanterns enlighten the nightsky is a truly grand vision to lay eyes on. Thai people believe that the taking off lantern is accompanied by any sufferings. The light is said to point people to a bright and complete life. This fun event baits in even westerners although im not sure if they take it as seriously or just enjoy sharing in the festivities. The Thai Lanterns are biodegradable and are built from Rice Paper and Bamboo for structure. Flight time is about 12 min and the Lanterns are notable to reach upward of 1200 feet!Popularity has been on the rise (excuse the pun) and has even found the Royal Thai Air Force vary their air activity and make warning to the airport to be cautious of future risks should a lantern get lodged in a plane turbine.
